Her hope is that kids will be encouraged to read, and that mentors will help them experience the wonders of walking around a fabulous bookstore, picking out a book, reading it and then talking about it. Sonoma TrainTown Railroad
All Aboard!! TrainTown features a quarter scale railroad on 4 miles of track. Each train ride lasts 20 minutes and goes over bridges, through tunnels, and stops at Lakeview - a miniture town and petting zoo. In addition to the train ride, 6 amusement rides are also offered. TrainTown is located just one mile south of the Plaza in Sonoma. MM has tickets available for free train rides. Stop by the office to pick them up. Petaluma Animal Shelter
Looking for a special way to spend time with your mentee? Let the animals at Petaluma Animal Shelter help you teach children about partnership, responsibility and caring for those around us. Join the Animal Shelter staff for a special training session for mentors and mentees, then you will be able to have future mentor-time at the shelter to read a book to a dog or do homework with a cat. Training sessions are the first Saturday of the month from 11am - noon, followed by a pizza lunch. RSVP to volcoordinator@petalumaanimalshelter.org or 778-7387. Capoeira
